Portrait artist Peter Kendall is spending his Artopia residency getting a fly-on-the-wall look at the ABC - turning his experiences at the East Perth studios into a sketch book and blog of ABC staff going about their daily tasks.
Peter Kendall is a full time professional artist living in South Perth and well known for his portrait and abstract painting and children's books.

Thank you for taking the time to talk to me in the park tonight. Yup when I saw the Peter Brok (spelling) portrait it all gelled. Was looking at your ABC stint and presume you were using acryllics…though not sure because it is so hard to tell in cyberspace. Just once I went into a dance studio (used to be a ballet dancer) and lost hours drawing what they probably thought was crap but..wow what fun.
I cannot remember the titles of two of your other portraits but the two that jumped out at me from their thumbnails were the wonderful all red one of a woman and the man laid back in blue denim shirt. I felt I got their personalities. Lovely and very painterly.
For some reason I could only get thumbnails of the abstracts…very frustrating but maybe in keeping with being abstract to the point that even my red dot glasses didn’t help, it was meant to be. Will try again another time.
Don’t supposed the ABC want a stint at writing poetry?…did a few stints in Primary Schools and we all had a ball.. not so much different. Sometimes I wonder if the old practise of apprenticeship has severly limited and inhibited many artists, especially the last two centuries. I gave up theatre etc and had babies and only now with Centrelink breathing down my skinny neck am panicking that I have to get a real job. ARGHHH. Me in an office? hey ho, pouvre employer.
Anyhows thanks again….am trying to find a space in this dog box full of large children to put up an easel, wonder if the landlady would mind me knocking a wall down. I could always blame you or tell her I am an artist and the lack of wall is a brilliant trompe l’oiel.
Best wises to you and your friend….parkinsons..awful but at least it leaves the mind intact…or maybe that is not such a blessing.
